George Dewey Glenn

September 1, 1952 – February 2, 2021
CCM President and Executive Director

George Dewey Glenn, 68 years old passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois.

The first born child of Willa and Dewey Glenn, George was born on September 1, 1952. He was baptized as a youngster at Carter Temple CME Church in Chicago, Illinois where he was active in the Youth Usher Board, Youth Choir, clubs and activities. George enjoyed learning and he had an innate curiosity about life. All benefited from his love of history, music, philosophy, sports and food through shared experiences and conversations. A natural leader, organizer, mentor and friend, he was educated in the Chicago Public School system, both at Ruggles Elementary and Senn High School. He then proudly attended Harvard University in Cambridge Massachusetts.

George spent 24 years in the investment banking industry working with William Blair and Company, Merrill Lynch, Drake Burnham Lambert and Lehman Brothers. He was moved by the events during that time and his focus shifted from banking to his community. Due to both rising crime rates and fewer urban students graduating high school, he realized the need for more positive role models to mentor boys in inner city communities. He set out to create the Concerned Christian Men, a youth organization designed to help develop the moral and spiritual integrity of these boys and shape them into contributing members of society. George believed that with the right training and programming, Christian men from within the community could fill this need for role models, and worked tirelessly for the last 20 years to make his vision a reality.

George served the Founder, President and Executive Director of Concerned Christian Men.  Since 1996, over 40,000 young boys and men have participated in CCM’s programs.  George modeled what it meant to be deemed a “Father to the Fatherless”.  George’s efforts have been recognized with many awards, such as Harold Washington Elementary School Civic Leader Award for “Generous Support and Inspiration to our Young Men”; and Monarch Awards Foundation and AKA Sorority Public Service Award.

George, a generous and kind spirit, leaves to remember and celebrate his life: his father Dewey Sanford Glenn, 3 sisters Beverly (Richard) Jones, Sheila (Randolph) Jackson, Sandra Elaine Glenn, a niece, great nieces and a great nephew, godchildren, cousins and many extended family and friends.
